Mr. Pinocchio (The Wooden Man)

Mr. Pinocchio (The Wooden Man)

A Poem by H. A. M.
"

Pinocchio grows up ...sorta.

"

Mr. Pinocchio (The Wooden Man)

I can’t...

Listen to my story
Unfold
A tale better than your best
Rolled gold.
Not twisted
It’s the facts that matters.
It’s just about a wooden boy
that grew into
A wooden man.

Logic still locked to that
Of a child
Still mild
He couldn’t even amp up his smile.

Pantomiming emotions he can’t feel
Wondering
“Is any of it real?”

Look away now.
Don’t try to smile now.
I know derelicts are funny
but he’s bummy now.

He’s wishing hard now.
Can you believe it ya’ll?
A spirit
Trapped inside a wooden
Box now.

For what it’s worth...

I heard him curse
the other day.
Mentioned Geppetto
and some other folks around the way.

A life with no strings
He could do anything
He just couldn’t feel
The joy
That this life brings.

Immature in his youth he
Could waste it away
Trying to find a blue fairy
To make his life real

With meaning.

Yeah it was cool at first...

Like a car with no gas
Going fast
down hill.

Look away now
Don’t try to smile now
I know derilicts are funny
But he’s bummy now.

It’s not comatose.
Just one dull
Contusion.
Animated wood.
No strings.
Still amusing.

But sad.

A wooden man that
Can’t cry
Can’t feel happines
Enjoy sex
Or love
Just die.

I wonder ...
If he knows what death
Is.
Would he wait for later
Or try to be kindling?

I still haven’t scratched the surface yet.

Movements in staccato
Or at rest.
Nothing is done with fervor.
No life.

So I wonder...
Even if this living wood is
Alive and animated...
Does it have a soul?
Can it relate?

I looked into painted on eyes
And I saw
A picture of me
Clawing to get out.

Look away now
Don’t try to smile now
I know the derilicts funny
But he’s bummy now

Life is the mystery
For the person
Who needs to stay
busy.

mmm...this piece has so many meanings
but the thing that stike me the most is that it is also full of paradox
he is hurting and amused and sad but ye he can feel nothing, just blandness
but to feel blandness he have to feel emotions sometime before to know that it is bland
do i make any sense at all? (nvm...i confused myself sometimes)

it is also repeative...
maybe because life is repeative that it becomes bland?

"So I wonder
Even if this living wood is
Alive and animated.
Does it have a soul?
Can it relate?"
maybe that is how humans are...
alive and animated on the outside but yet so dead on the inside

good job raising questions...hope i understood some of what you are trying to say

Nice, this one reminds me of the "Can I be me?" the one you wrote a while back but that one was more about your avitar and this is more soul searching. I like this piece Pinocchio was a great way to express the feeling of being trapped with in yourself

Hey, you're not alone on feeling the trap like that.

Anyway, this is really quite impressive on how you used "Pinocchio" and twisted it all up toward to his later years like that. I seriously enjoyed that very much so and I'm taking it to put it under my favorite...

We all have strings attached - its just that some of us lie about it. You affirmed it with depth. looking into painted eyes and seeing yourself clawing to get out, that was very powerful writing. Well done.

Comparing your life to Pinocchio's.....astonishing work here, HAM! The wooden boy longs to be let free...to feel...to walk with friends and have a lover. Incredible introspection! We all long to be let out....and we are the only ones who can unlock the door. When I have the time to read your work, I am never disappointed! Lydia

I am trapped inside of myself and a life that I thought I wanted a long time ago. Actually, the life I thought I wanted is still desired. It just is not what I ended up with. I am inside of the jumbled mess and will find my way out.

At times I would love to be a wooden figure. Other times I am sure that I am nothing more than wood.

Cool write.

I loved the imagery and metaphor of this. The mind trapped in a wooden box long before the body is. This is a very thought provoking piece. Well done and thank you for sharing it with me.

Who doesn''t feel trapped inside themselves is what I want to know? This piece is excellent honey, a old story that transcends time, a fairy story that describes modern day man. Very well written my friend, clever sod! Mx
