I was buried deep down in my bedclothes When my mother reassured me and said, "Hush-a-bye, close your eyes, go to sleep now For no monsters live under your bed.
No ghouls lie poised in the closet To jump out and give you a start, The cupboards are empty of goblins That would feed on your slow beating heart.
The tippity-tap on the window Of fingers that fill you with dread, Is simply the patter of raindrops And not as you fear the undead.
The ghostly white glare through the skylight Is only the Moon's silver shine, So hush-a-bye baby to sleep now And remember you are thirty nine! "
This made me laugh out loud. I loved the twist at the end. It's reminiscent of some of the O. Henry stories I've read but in a brief poetic form. It's simple, easily digestible fare and well worth the read. I enjoyed. F.

Sorry I have not seen your writing in my newsfeed, so I haven't read you lately. This is a delightful return to your writing, as your fun, playful poem has great contrasts & a killer ending twist! I love how there's a contrast between the sing-song well-crafted rhyme & rhythm, which imparts a feeling of cuddly baby happy stuff . . . but then there's this underlying SOMETHING FISHY . . . as if this poem might take a freaky turn. Instead of turning freaky, it turns funny at the end! Great job of hoodwinking the reader to fall for your wordplay (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
