The Craft

The Craft

A Poem by Adam Latham

The subtle shimmers of the candlelight

Reveal the hidden shadows of the night,

And beckon forward faces from the past,

A long lost love, the first but not the last.

An old acquaintance from so long ago

Is recreated in the yellow glow,

But fades again as some elusive draught

Proclaims my own ineptness for The Craft.

I sense your need to create to bring something from the shadows to the light Our failures only prepare us for success if we let them propel us urge us on good write I love sitting by a campfire at night watching how the light and shadows play on peoples faces something primal in it

Really nice job on this. Great flow and interesting topic I don't see much of on the site.

I love your rhyme & rhythm perfectly crafted . . . as for your subject matter, I've been thinking about writing on this topic myself. I'm reading a long novel that has "the craft" in it, plus some in my family dabbled long ago. Your poem creates the perfect mysterious mood & sketchy details to set the scene. There are a number of "medium" reality TV series here which I never watch becuz they don't set the scene properly . . . needs to be a little spooky like your poem! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This flows like liquid mercury, the rhymes tight and succinct, not a hint of force. A remembrance, a love and feeling that we were not good enough, but it is not enough to cull it from our memory. Great work!
