Frost

Frost

A Poem by Adam Latham
"

So a while ago I tried to write a poem dedicated to one of my favourite poets, Robert Frost. The aim was to create a piece using the titles of some of his poems. The end result was a bit of a mess.

"

I’ve stopped by woods on snowy eves
More times than I can say,
I’ve wandered roads not taken till
I could not find my way.

I’ve apple picked and mended walls
All by a silken tent,
I’ve been acquainted with the night
Till night and dark were spent.

I’ve asked for roses, prayed in spring
For weather hot and searing
So I could sit and read Bob Frost
Within a cabin clearing.

There is a blessedness about the beauty of this poem, and a marriage it seems of the essence of Frost, most specially from the road less travelled by and nothing gold can stay. Top shelf stuff. Thanks for sharing.

What a great tribute to one of the masters. When I have the time I am reading Frost myself. I enjoyed reading this. Thank you! Temp

The only poet to ever receive four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry, winner of the Congressional Gold Medal, nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature 31 times, winner of the prestigious Bollingen Prize from Yale University, Poet Laureate for the state of Vermont and Poet Laureate of the United States from 1958 to 1959. Those are the impressive credentials Robert Frost attained through his work. He said once that he had thrown over half of his life's work away. Upon hearing that, I was thinking I'd certainly like to find and rummage through that dumpster. I enjoyed your tribute piece to a literary icon well deserving of your praise.

More astounding is why after 31 times they haven't granted him the Prize if not posthumously!
There is no doubt who you have paid this tribute to. Your poem has a smooth flow I enjoyed it.

Recently I watched an old interview he gave it was wonderful.
Yeah I like it too, even if you hadn’t explained, I would have been puzzled & guessing but the flow of words and rhyme is pleasing to read.

You are being WAAAAAY too hard on yourself! This is a great poem! You accomplished all your goals, plus you planted seeds of Frost longing in all of your readers, I bet! Your rhyme, rhythm, & pacing are so reminiscent of Frost's writing & the embedded titles are not obvious bumps to the reading, but blending in perfectly with your message. I love your originality & imagination! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

An excellent poem in the style of the one (Robert Frost) you admire. Wonderful imagery. Too bad you didn't include a couplet for a complete sonnel. :)

You've given an ode to Frost as his ardent admirer and you've conveyed the sentiment well. Not reduced it to a pastiche and yet channeled the mood of Frost's poem with deftness.

Good stuff!
