The Hoodoo Sea

The Hoodoo Sea

A Poem by Adam Latham

Where is my left?

Where is my right?

What is this mist

That eclipses the light?

What are my bearings

And where is the sun?

I cannot go back

And I cannot sail on.

I am lost,

I am lost,

Will I ever be free

Of this finger like fog

On this mystery sea.

This is brilliant! Normally I go for a more complex message, but the simplicity of this is deceivingly thought-provoking. Especially after I researched the title, which multiplies the ideas that come to mind when I come back to re-read your poem. This can apply to so many aspects of life that are mind-muddling! Your sing-songy rhyme & rhythm seem to have a rocking quality as a boat, also a mocking quality as a joke, as if the hoodoo gods are laughing at us (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sometimes it is baffling, everything is fine then one day you wake up and your perspective has changed. You’re lost and have to re evaluate everything to find orientation once more. I like this! Also a catchy little sea-faring ditty. Nice piece!
