Stolen Breath

Stolen Breath

A Poem by GypsyGhost

Entangled in the normalcy of it all
Estranged from the dysfunction
Your hands press hard against my chest
And my truth is knocked out of my soul
Like the breath stolen from the hard fallen
It isn't your intention
It is what you hope for

My hands left grasping for me
But rather always pulling you closer yet
They're blackened with tar, chalk and muck
What could I find underneath?
But the more I rub, the messier I feel
Entangled with the filth
I fear it's been ground into my soul

The grit of wasted time
The residue of disappointment
The smeared fog of my truth
