MenA Poem by RayUp the lawn and across the field Into the longing world of men I once crossed. Far beyond the golden meadow Further than the great river I once went. There, the clouds of silver in the sky Became grey misty smoke of despair I once felt. The journey that I took went further And as I dwelt with them many days I cried. Up the lawn and across the field Into the lost world of men I’ve once been. Carriers of joy there were none And little love there I found I once knew. I saw them curled upon themselves Letting the bright sunlight pass by I once held. They would not hear any kindly word Only in offence to themselves I beheld. Dark clouds now loom o’er I am as sorrowful as can be I cling. A light that cannot be seen A life that will now conquer Has taken over me. Up the lawn and across the field Into the despairing world of men I once crossed. Cries of pain, cries of sorrow Cries of anger and everything’s slow I saw. There I dwelt many a year, and these times Times spent and lost at expense I know. I once knew a boy that came from this land Faraway into the country he remained I understood. There is better than just sitting here Lingering over this desk and doing nothing I’m blind. Yes, once I crossed into the land of distrust And darkness and bleak thoughts came on me I should have turned around when time there was I know. © 2012 RayReviews
