A Selfless Former Lover's Creed

A Selfless Former Lover's Creed

Always act like you believe her

When she says you were the only one.

Always lie and say she never made you cry

Even when it was the only thing you did on certain nights.

Always pretend like it was your fault

Even when all your friends tell you it was hers.

Always pick up the phone when she calls

Even though she doesn’t deserve your advice.

Never question where she went

After getting drunk that one night.

Never forget to say you still love her

Even when you have to tell that lie to her face.

Never confess you hated her mistakes

Just tell her you were merely disappointed.

Tell her everything will be alright

Even though her world’s been crashing down since you left.

Treat her to dinner

When she’s in between domestic disputes.

Act like you two still have a chance

Even though you’re never going back.

Give her a wave and a smile

When you see her with her next mistake.

Say you forgive her

Even though you never will.

But most of all, above all else

Never give up on her…
