Opposites Attract...?

Opposites Attract...?

A Poem by Gurglesnarch van Caasi
"

When opposites don't work out...

"

Opposites might “attract”

But opposites do not last

Opposites might “complete each other”

But the bonds eventually pass

Wherein lies attraction?

What does attraction mean?

Are we referring to mutual love

Or simply mutual greed?

Are we attracted to the gift?

Or attracted to the giver?

Does “attraction” mean a heaven

Or a delicious, temporal shiver?

Attraction isn’t explicitly

Something amazing or great

For humans and fish alike are lured

Attracted by the bait

Now what does “opposite” mean?

Why would we think they attract?

We’re fed with lies to support diversity

Then surprised at the congruity it lacks

The root word for “opposite”? You guessed it: “Oppose”

So how would we find this congruent?

We find that at first these differences help

We feel emotionally affluent

But then we see that Yin and Yang

Were just not meant to be

They certainly swirled around

But so do whirlpools in the sea

They certainly circle each other

The black and white never are grey

But wrestlers circle each other

And predators circle their prey

If you want completion, you must complete

Two must be perfectly one

If there were not a Master Plan somewhere

The earth would not circle the sun

A key will not fit in the wrong keyhole

And forcing it will cause it to break

Your hearts are not meant to be jimmied and picked

There is a Key that your heart can take

Do not settle for the improper match

For opposing matches are not matches at all

Attraction does not always mean completion

Don’t walk through a door that’s really a wall.

Much food for thought here, not sure it depends on whether or not we're similar or opposites, it just boils down to devotion & perseverance after that initial spark wears off and real life begins....love the fish analogy....ooh shiny stuff. ;-) Great read, enjoyed.

I don't know. Opposite do attract and create a wild ride. I believe if two people are the same. Lesser chance of success. Boredom is worst than warm beer. I always wanted the woman I shouldn't want. Maybe didn't last a lifetime. It was a okay place to be. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry. You open the door to a long conversation.

There are many different mixes of people, so being dissimilar is more common than exactly opposite. .. read more

Oh my! This is excellent work with much to ponder upon and reflect. And sadly it makes me the woman I knew in a dream that I pushed away because I thought she might be just too much like me!

Given my general cynicism towards relationships these days, this one definitely speaks to me...every relationship is a compromise, and I think we all feel as though we give up the most under the circumstances...powerful write, well done.

Hm..... I do think opposites can attract but to a certain extent -- if they both really want it to work then I think it will. I agree with Frieda here, really!

I love it! Excellent defining and excellent word choice. YOu ahve certainly captured the spirit of "opposites" and I agree it is nothing but an invisible wall.
