My letter to the Sky

My letter to the Sky

A Poem by GunMetal
"

One of my first attempts at heavy imagery in a poem. I was inspired to write it after listening to Derrick Brown's poem, How The Jellyfish Wishes.

"
You walk like the sun accross your open aquatic skin
and I walk with you.
You dive head long into the horizon
and your pink and purple puddles splash over us for moments
before blinding us with onyx glow.
You watch us with your billions of eyes
through the dark veil you stretched accross your face
while your heart beats moonlight into the night sky, I can see it.
I can see, everything.

I can see planets interact.
Their rings flashing like hoolah hoops over asteroid fields
while they ping pong comets back and forth.
whose tails wag at the attention,
littering scraps of stardust
all over the cosmic highways.
I can see Apollos holding conversations with the apparatus,
agreeing that the atmosphere her is subtle, but it'll do for now.
Un-apolagetic asteroids in an undeterrable, inertia driven direction,
(destination un-determined)
while the hand drawn dot-to-dot constellations
connect themselves and argue over who is the better legend.
I can see it all.

Below me, like statues of bar graphs,
rivaling your vast excellence,
I see cities that cast their own veil accross your eyes.
Reaching toward you just to blind you to the things we do.
Those florescent columns,
towering over rivers of tar,
as it's people feather their way across intersections
to reach another where.
To reach a place to go to.
Street lights laminate the side walks
hanging their heads to watch them walk by.

Their shadows pass under their feet, inch by inch,
mile by mile,
and always their shadows are where they want to be
before they get there.

I see speeding automobiles dragging crimson tail lights behind them.
It's amazing how we can sometimes see things that are no longer there,
and hear things that are no longer taking place,
like the sigh of an airplane
that passes across your face,
pretending to be one of your eyes.
We can only hear where it was,
not where it is.

And from all of this, I'm here to escape.
I find a place
far away from where any of this is, and I walk with you.
You remind me of how small we are.
And I close my eyes.
I can see everything.

This poem, when written, and even through revisions, had the most misspelled words out of anything I've written and posted before. I think I got them all now. Though I'm sure you'll be kind enough to point any out in case I didn't.

Thank you for this exquisiteness, this journey through your world, through your eyes, it's a fantastic trip. I enjoyed this very much.

Fantastic imagery! I don't feel qualified to review it, but I love the line about arguing over who is the better legend.

You make me smile with this. The first stanza, in my opinion, has painted the whole picture of blue skies and green lands. How imaginary, creamy, creatively, wonderfully scarring that image into my mind :) I love!
