Ink

Ink

A Poem by Giulia King

The promise of tomorrow hung in the air,
 Like crisp morning dew.
I wet my pen with ink as black as my soul.
I stare at the blank paper.
You gave me a poem to write.
 A new chapter has unfold.
Still, the visions of us never stopped.
 This suffocating silence haunts me.
May my tormented soul find peace.
May my ink lead me somewhere kind.

A recent heartbreak made me write again.
But something wonderful will come out of this, right? -Right.

I quite like this. The first two lines are my favorite.

Sorry Giulia, I know well of what you speak. Love lost will be love found again … older perhaps, wiser … yes … willing to chance love again? We hope so.
The illustration is exceptional … is it yours?
I can see the image of that love torn out leaving only a shell to ponder.

Take care.

I really, really love this. My only suggestion is in your use of the word pencil. Pencils usually hold lead and won’t hold ink. You might consider changing the word pencil to pen (as in the old school ink pen artists use. And I really love this and heartbreaks are often a real b***h to get over. But, not that I would wish heartbreak on anyone (I’ve had my share already), heartbreak sometimes leads to profound literature and verse, and this verse is profoundly rendered.

Hi Willys,
Thank you so much for correcting me. I wrote this poem down on a napkin and didn't.. read more
"you gave me a poem to write" almost as if heartbreak could be seen as a gift....giving us material for poetry, hard as it might feel.
the pic reminds me of "Scream"
perhaps that is what our pens do when we get hurt enough...

The poem begins with a fresh start and then the poet finds she cannot quite escape from the shadows of the past. So it is that our minds say one thing but our emotions another. This writing says what it says, simply and frankly. We recognize the conflicting feelings and empathize with the writer. And yes, I'm sure that putting it down in ink helps...
