The End

The End

A Poem by Giulia King

She was standing in front of him.
Tears rolling down her cheeks.
Their souls were no longer entwined.
Naked at the thought that this is it.
This is where it ends.
Her heart breaks just by the thought that this is the last time
she looks at his face.
This beautiful face that she once kissed,
Lips that told her he's hers.
"And I'm yours" she would always breathe out.
"I don't know what to say."
"I know" she whispered.
"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."
"You are perfect. So perfect", he said with tears in his eyes.
"I don't deserve you."
"You're the first person I called home.
And for that I wanted to say thank you."
She looked up at the sky as if the answer would fall down on her hands.
But it never did.
This breathless moment tugged on her heart.
At last she said,
"I am eternally grateful for you"
She looked at him one last time.
Those dark mystical eyes looked so broken.
"I'm happy the stars let me meet you."
He took one step closer to her.
His hand touched her wavy hair,
he leaned forward and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
She gathered strength and walked away,
thinking if she survives this,
surely there's nothing in the world she cannot do.

I think we were more destined for heartbreak and losing the scraps of love we do encounter. After all, it seems that god, or whatever it is out there, doesn't want us happy. He wants us strong. Lovely bittersweet write.

even this pain is also beautiful when tears from the eyes of two person, are so genuine and unconditional.but if the content of tears of anyone changes a little , then the scenario is big change and painful.
you have penned it so well, truly beautiful

Well written depiction of a break-up, Gullia. I agree with Valentine, this could easily be expanded to short story territory. Good write.

you write with such passion. very sad when love is lost or ends. so hard to walk away. very heartfelt write. as Tennyson wrote, 'Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all'. matters of the heart certainly can be difficult & can make us stronger in some ways. love the upbeat, confident ending! you certainly painted a touching scene. good write.

Thank you so much, Pete! I always look forward to your amazing reviews and quotes! :)
I know where this one came from (Ell.ii.ooo.tt) ...lol
And you did it just great - this writing created in me that feeling that I felt when I watched 'Contact' for the first time - the Jody Foster movie about SETI, which I love, so you pushed the same button Gullia.
Bravo...!
