The End

The End

A Poem by Giulia King

She was standing in front of him.
Tears rolling down her cheeks.
Their souls were no longer entwined.
Naked at the thought that this is it.
This is where it ends.
Her heart breaks just by the thought that this is the last time
she looks at his face.
This beautiful face that she once kissed,
Lips that told her he's hers.
"And I'm yours" she would always breathe out.
"I don't know what to say."
"I know" she whispered.
"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."
"You are perfect. So perfect", he said with tears in his eyes.
"I don't deserve you."
"You're the first person I called home.
And for that I wanted to say thank you."
She looked up at the sky as if the answer would fall down on her hands.
But it never did.
This breathless moment tugged on her heart.
At last she said,
"I am eternally grateful for you"
She looked at him one last time.
Those dark mystical eyes looked so broken.
"I'm happy the stars let me meet you."
He took one step closer to her.
His hand touched her wavy hair,
he leaned forward and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
She gathered strength and walked away,
thinking if she survives this,
surely there's nothing in the world she cannot do.

You know, every time I read a piece of yours, some have been short, others longer. But the one thing which they always do to me - they make me read each and every line with my eyes gripped onto each and every word.
You craft them in such a way that its hard to pull away.
Another touching read, and to include the picture made it even more moving.

Mark.

Sorry for the delay, Mark. Thank you for your amazing words here! They truly made me happy :)
After reading through every line, with all the agony each line held, the strong ending really did me in. Quite brave an honest. Great job

Thank you so much, Anissa!
Touching write. I like the amount of dialogue in this poem, you don't see them that often, also the fact that it told a story, again, not every poem. You had a beautiful picture too! It was all a pleasure to read, full of imagery and emotion even for the reader. Tyfs!

An emotion filled piece, devastatingly beautiful.

"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."

That's a powerful line and rings entirely of truth, but what a revitalising close!

Thank you for reading, Poeticme :)!
Such beautifully though sadly expressed emotions about the fading and end of love. One hopes, one prays.. one tries but perhaps not always enough. Same for the other, maybe.. marriages or relationships just aren't always made in Heaven.

Guess we have to never forget though..

Powerful and truthful and raw! Beautifully written. The dignity of letting go expressed so well!

"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."

What a great line. Your poem exposed the raw pain of ending a love you thought would last forever. Truly, we are tested by fire, like fine steel. If we survive the fire...we survive. Period. Nicely done.
