SoldierA Poem by Russell DrakeThe first song recorded by my band Thoughts Of A Dark Mind
Darkened clouds fill the sky overhead
Through forest and pouring rain we tread
Those who would stand in arms against us
Left their defense and soon will be dead
A bright flash and a figure revealed
Shot from behind and their fate is sealed
“Sir, we must hurry or die here now”
“On to the ridge far across the field”
[And the] Earth turned red with the blood of the slain
Too many killed or wounded in vain
Through fear of death and life filled with pain
Souldiers fight on to live once again
Oh, to live once again
Our foes twist and fall dancing blades
Battle continues as daylight fades
Enemies shout a cry to the gods
“Our deaths mean little here on this day”
Blade against blade when guns cease to fire
Armor they wear is making them tired
A flaw on their part costs them their lives
The bodies burn bright on this midnight pyre
[And the] Earth turned red with the blood of the slain
Too many killed or wounded in vain
Through fear of death and life filled with pain
Souldiers fight on to live once again
Oh, to live once again
