"The Great Uncle I Never Knew"A Poem by JoshA passage between two relatives of differing generations...
The Great Uncle I never knew drives from town, me by his side. His age, far more than I’d enjoy having to count, I learn this by the way he drives. An awkward swerve to the right, then a steady glide to the left. He tells me that at his age, driving in a similar fashion is not such a rarity, and that I too, will eventually drive similar to him. I embrace my darkest fears of doing so, adding that at his age, senior citizens should be forced to retake the drivers’ test. He doesn’t seem offended, and even lends a chuckle… admitting that I’m probably right. Describing the roll of hills, the burning of the sky at dusk brings to him, great pleasure he has come to appreciate during his lifetime. Perhaps soon, I shall do the same. For I am the crazy nephew, he’s just getting to know. © 2008 JoshAuthor's Note
