Southern Sympathy

Southern Sympathy

A Poem by Griffin
"

Soldier's Lament

"
The war was
Over
And we
Lost
What's a soldier
To do
When all they know
Is over
You come home
Expecting glory
But get
Hate instead
You fought
For these people
Yet
They act like
You're the enemy
Why did I
Survive?
I wonder
Every night
The sounds
And smells
Of war
Stay with me
Always
And forever
I'll never
Let it
Go
Away from
Here
I need to
Leave
Like my
Girl left
Me
Just go
Into the woods
And never
Come back
Before the
Trials begin
I will hold
My broken pieces
Together
So that I
Can overcome
My dreams
At night
But what's
A man to do
When all they
Think of
Is you?
