A Chapter by Taylor Sherman

Death is like an elder brother, standing behind us, guiding us into his loving embrace. Some people have no fear of him, going willingly when he calls. Others kick and scream, afraid of what he might do once they give into him. Then there is the rest of us, the ones that while having embraced him are not willing to give up quiet yet, so instead they assist him in his work, bringing people to his door when he demands it, we are the Heralds, at our strongest force, there were 9 of us wandering the land, bringing down those that have been ignoring the summons, defying our brothers love. Now, there are only two of us remaining. My sister and I were the last two chosen for our lack of fear of what would happen if we died. My sister, Elise was level headed, strong willed and blunt with her words, she was the one everyone worried would come knocking at their door. Then there is me, being of an outgoing and friendly demeanor, I was the one everyone truly feared. With my signature smile, either serving tea or killing those in my way, I was the most feared Harold. I was the Reaper of Hope, tearing apart anyone with one glance; I was content to sit the sidelines as my sister did the dirty work. Then came the day that we ran into someone who did not fear the Harold’s call, they were strangers to our land, coming preaching a new religion, one of tolerance and hope, where when you died, you were treated as an equal with their savior. Death did not take kindly to the encroachment on his people, and sent us to their land. He tasked us with only one goal. To kill their god and to show the world, that Death ruled all.
