Revolution, A Midworld Fantasy: Opening

Revolution, A Midworld Fantasy: Opening

A Chapter by Taylor Sherman

With the sound of thunder rolling overhead, I jolted awake. Blinking away tears I let out a heavy sigh. I saw her again, in my dreams. Looking at the clock I decided to get out of bed. “Only an hour of sleep, but there is no way that I will be able to go back to sleep.” Muttering to myself I shuffled towards the kitchen.

As I passed the living room a voice calls out “Eyy Kale, long time no talk.” Turning towards the voice I give a half smile “Nice to see you Greed, I haven’t been able to get much done with exams for admission to Anima Libera Academy.”

“I already put a pot of coffee on when I heard the thunder, still can’t control your powers when asleep, eh?”

Flopping down onto the couch I nodded. “Well, sorta. It’s only when I see…her…that I lose control.”

“That angel you rescued at the end of your senior year?”

“That exact one, I still wonder if I’ll ever be able to see her again.” A heavy silence falls between us. “Hey Greed…can you and Envy do me a favor?” Greed looked at me quizzically “I’m about to do something really stupid, and I need you two to get the item from Hell for me.”

                “You aren’t suggesting…”

“Yes, I am. I’m going to summon the remaining two Sin’s, and sign the last contract, and before you say it, Yes I know, I might die summoning one of them alone, but if I can get them under my thumb, I'll be one step closer to finding her."

With a defeated sigh, Greed nodded "I'll go get Envy, and the Feathers now. Best of luck, my friend." In a poof of smoke smelling of lavender Greed vanishes.

I hope this is the right choice...I lifted my left arm up as high as I can, staring at it, lost deep in thought about the day that I met her. It was the final semester before I'd graduate high school, and I was out performing the last ritual needed to be granted my official license to practice Summoning Magic. There was only one other student in my year becoming a summoner. I had finished my ritual and was waiting for him at the designated spot, but he was running late. After roughly an hour had passed I had decided to go looking for him, even though it is taboo to interrupt a summoner, for it can cost not only their life, but hundreds if not thousands of others if the monster was strong enough. What I found though, was worth the changes that happened to me. He wasn't a student like everyone, even the professors believed, but a Dark Mage in disguise, working towards summoning an Elder God, by sacrificing one of the New World Gods Angels. She was bound tight by Ethereal Chains, wrapped tightly around both of her arms and had blood slowly flowing to form into a pool at her feet. Without thinking I had rushed to try and break the chains, which is what cost me my left arm. I had reached out and grabbed the nearest chain with my left arm, causing them to wrap around it, crushing it with the force that was strong enough to hold down an Angelic Body. With my arm now limp and bleeding an idea comes to mind, seeing as the Dark Mage had already taken off, certain that his ritual would succeed. I mix my blood with that of the angels, not knowing that I wouldn't be canceling the summoning, but changing the type of being that is summoned. Laying in the pool of blood, I felt a shadows pass over me, alternating between a good and evil feeling, I tried to turn to my side but all I could manage from the loss of blood as moving my head slightly, seeing a large feather, slowly changing from pure white to the darkest black, darker than the current night, and that was the last thing I remember about that part of the night, before the summoning took full effect.

Waking up to a demon, wasn't exactly part of any Summoner in training hopes. It was a terrifying experience, until I realized they were restrained. "So buddy, you gonna do something or pass out again? I can't go away until you command it." It said to me.

I smile back at that moment, not realizing than that this demon that I summoned was Envy, the first of the Sins I bound to my will. That was until they saw the feather I held, the feather that slowly changed from a pure, clean white, to a void filling black. That moment, was the moment I found out that the Angel I had saved, was an Archangel, and not just any, but one of the eldest New World Angels. Envy did not know her name, but they were impressed that I was still alive after encountering one. "So boy, what did you do to be given that gift?" the demon had asked, and I told them the tale of what had transpired. "Phew, you know that if you ever gain use of that arm again, you'll be a lucky b*****d." with a faint drawl the demon turns away flustered "damn and I worked so hard to get rid of that accent.." they mutter to themself leaving me to reflect on the night. So my arms useless now...so much for being a master summoner... as I stared blankly at the sky the demon speaks "So you're a Summoner right? Do you have any preference to name?" Turning with a quizzical look they laugh "You summoned me with a mix of your blood and an Archangels blood, I am meekly at your command. Especially as long as you possess that protection charm they point at the feather.

"Just call me...Kale, and what type of demon and rank are you?" that really set them off.

"Sweetie, I am Envy. A Voidling, I'm not a demon,. I'm a former Elder God that was forgotten until your sweet little Lucifer picked me up. Rank 60 in your human terms of strength I guess." with a chortle they step into the moon light, I take them in, noticing a lack of clothes and a very feminine figure. "And look at you, looking like you've never seen a female body before." With her accent coming out more and more as she talked, I passed out again. "Now now, better get you fixed up before you die. You're the most interesting person to come to summon me in a long, long time."

The sun peers in through my window, waking me from my past. With a loud sigh I lower my arm as the familiar ache sets in. "Guess it’s time to risk it all." And with that, I prepare myself for probably the most dangerous summoning I will ever commit, anything to meet that Angel again, for I had, in truth, fallen in love at first sight.

This is what started me on this journey, the fateful night that I met Envy, and the fateful day that I decided to risk it all, to risk destroying the world. I don’t remember much of what happens after, but I do manage to successfully bind the last two Sins to my will. But this act of binding was more of a contract. I cannot recall or repeat who they are, but they will serve me until I accomplish my task of finding the one I seek. This was what everyone didn’t know, that I had no clue what would happen. Now, before you read on, clear your mind of who you thought I was, and be ready for the real me.
