Youth

Youth

A Poem by Grey Guardian
"

Let's start my profile out on a high note, since its only going to get darker from here.

"
Youth

I fly through the stars
And enter into hyperspace
And in the background
I can hear
My brother shaking the tree
In our backyard
Outside my spaceship

I think about the home
That I left behind
When I accepted my mission
Early this morning

I can smell
Mom making grilled cheese
My favorite lunch
I wonder
If she remembered
To get fruit punch Capri Sun

“Your mission’s complete Captain!”
Base says as they call me home
I step out of my cardboard box
And run inside to grilled cheese
And fruit punch Capri Sun

I smile outside at my rocket ship
With ‘USA” written on the side
In blue Crayola crayon
Beneath the brown and gold and red
Stars that fell from the tree

Author's Note

Grey Guardian
Before anyone asks, no, this isn't something that actually happened to me. It's an idyllic dream of childhood. Something that honestly only happens in books or movies. Nevertheless, its one I often come back to as I'm building characters for some of the shorts I write.
