Alone

Alone

A Poem by Paige
"

I wrote this awhile ago, but it is still one of my favorites

"

Shattered wind sweeps through the trees

Under cold and frozen sun

Summer dark as winter day

All the days are only one

On this never-ending road

Where dead branches frame the sky

Where the stars are overcast

And the light escapes my eye

Not a birdsong ever heard

Nor a treasure ever seen

No end and no beginning

Nothing ever that can mean

That at last I may have found

One last thing to fill my soul

One last ray of golden sunshine

Before this darkness takes its toll

On this road, no one hears me

No one ever turns my way

I’m a pebble next to jewels

A needle in the hay

This dark and empty place

Which never seems to end

I cannot find a way to live

No one still to call a friend

On this road I ever wander

Where in fields dry salt is sown

I search for distant moonlight

And I know I am alone
