The Kings Folly

The Kings Folly

A Poem by Battlecry
"

Written like The Sailors Curse, this poem is of a king who lets power get to his head.

"

Whisked away in all the glory

Bound by fear and pain

Glamor can be so deceiving

When you play the game

Tasted my first drop of honey

At the age of ten

I wanted more of this sweet substance

So I took a stand

Slowly rising to the top

I soon took command

Crowds around me cheered and wailed

As I simply grinned

Whisked away in all the glory

Bound by fear and pain

Glamor can be so deceiving

When you play the game

With the power in my mind

The kingdom in despair

A wondrous army at my disposal

What’s the point of playing fair

Soon I had become a menace

To my citizens

A hero rose from my own nation

Who wished to take a stand

Whisked away in all the glory

Bound by fear and pain

Glamor can be so deceiving

When you play the game

Now surrounded by the people

Trapped within my room

A hero managed to slip past

They found me dead at noon

Whisked away in all the glory

Bound by fear and pain

Glamor can be so deceiving

When you play the game

Power...so many seek it and yet is can debilitate the soul.....I liked the repetition of the one stanza throughout your poem. A man overcome with his power...a power that actually took away his freedom and ultimately his life. Great story telling in perfect rhythm and rhyme. Lydi**
