How Do You Sleep At Night?

How Do You Sleep At Night?

A Poem by Greg Skura

How do you sleep at night?
Causing death and destruction
Is it truly your right?

Off to war you send?
Not yourself
Those you can expend?

As you extend your will?
Did you consult
The ones you kill?

This to me is not a choice
Ask the victims
Hear their voice

War must be ceased
You chose war
They choose Peace

A nicely written piece. As a mother of three sons, my nightmare was the thought that they would grow up and go to war...and possibly die fighting to preserve our freedom here at home. As the daughter of a military officer, a "baby boomer" growing up on army bases my whole life (until I went away to college) and influenced by that environment (the United States military)...I just can't stop wondering what would happen to us, to our unsurpassed freedom, if we turn a blind eye to the rest of the world (to those who wish to harm us).

When we can stay in our own business like our good brothers in the north we'll be fine. Until then, Its the red white adn blue in everyone's f*****g business except our own.

Victims? They are there, too bad when we drop a bomb its for the "good of the people." Yeah And I'm a mayan Jet Fighter.

Great read. SHort sweet and point

Love this write... reminds me of a short Percy Shelley qoute...
"'Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number,
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you -
Ye are many - they are few"

I love the idea behind this write because many feel this way but never usually exspress themselves. I can feel the frustration with the goverment and I have had many family sent to war, and thankfully theve all come back, but to the govermetn their just a body. "did you consult, the ones you kill" love it:)

Coming from a mother of son. I know this is something he would not wish and I shutter at the thought. All those NOT in power pray and wish for peace, but those in power do not always extend their legacy to go to battle. Wonderful, heartfelt write!
