The Hatch

The Hatch

A Poem by Greenhorn

I step through a hatch
Overlooking a sign
And I say to myself
"This place isn't fine"

I try to back down
But the path seems long gone
"What should I do now?
I'm here all alone."

And when I start to lose hope
and the flame's to burn out
A stranger appears
Letting out a loud shout

"Make haste my friend,
You should not be in there!"
He lends me a hand
And gives a worried stare

Thanks to his help
I've escaped alright
But I notice the sign
That is all black and white

I become a bit scared
When I read out "Despair"...
...The stranger heads out
Telling me "Take care!"

...

I smile faintly
But just stand there still
Things are not the same anymore...
...and they never will.
