Cover Up

A Poem by GreenEyedPoet
"

Written 5/25/15 I'll block the world out While I'm shutting down too.

"

Long ago
I buried a mask
That I once wore,
In a grave
Filled with my previous self.

However tonight;
I'm digging that grave site up,
Grabbing that mask
And replacing it back upon my exterior.

If I cannot physically
Run away and disappear
I'll go back to hiding behind
That same facade I once knew.

I'll block the world out
While I'm shutting down too.

Cover up
The ugly.
Cover up
The sad.
Cover up
The chaos.
Cover up
With lies of glad.
[End]

Mask's are a very dangerous piece of apparel... made from the devils skin I guess.

Mine was/is never to deceive, it's always been to protect myself and/or others.
We all wear masks at some point or another, for a number of reasons... i love the image of burying the mask with your former self... I never looked at it like this when we finally come to terms with who we are and are not afraid to show the world... but sometimes we need that mask so it's best to bury it in shallow ground.... your writes are certainly windows into who you are, Ashley... you put it out there and that means that growth has occurred and that the mask may stay buried for longer periods of time...

I had it buried for a while, about a year or so, until I wrote this lol.

interesting :)....
It has always been easier to love others, than oneself. And maybe I guess, in all our futile attempts to throw the masks away, that reason is why we put it back on. This poem, again, truly says a lot about that - for me. Amazing work and just brings awareness to what is. I love it. Period :)))))

Thanks AM! :)
Wha a deep write Ashley... I loved the descriptions in this write. I have been there blocking everything out of my world just so I can survive. You expressed how dark of a place you truly are in. Great write :)

Going without the mask - going as you are, proved too much, my friend, eh?
Its sad when we can't be ourselves for whatever reason and its hard to admit it - exponentially harder to admit it on here so for what its worth I think its an incredibly brave write despite seeming like the opposite. Great imagery and the concrete poetry mask is very very artistic. Bravo
All the best of luck dear poet.
