Breaking the Chains

Written 1/25/15 Can't be your emotional crutch anymore.

I'm being crushed
By the weight
Of you constantly
Leaning on me
I am not a crutch
I cannot stabilize you
-
But I keep telling myself
These things
"You must be strong, never vulnerable
No crying, show no weakness
Be the protector, and save her"
So I tread on

You often question why I never show you emotion
Or whether I truly care
Well you're the one who taught me
That I had to be your savior and show no fear
And how can you question my compassion
When I was the one always catching you when you fell

Where were you
When I needed comfort..
When I needed strength..
When I needed you to catch me as I was falling..
I search
And cannot find you
-
I've become tired
In the place you hold me down in
But I'm stepping off this emotional pedestal
You can no longer hold me
In these chains
I'm breaking free

way to go, Ashley,,, give, give, and give until you could give no more... this is a methodical look at how someone uses another, finally sapping them of any strength left to give so the chains have to be broken or else the crutch crumbles... great write

yes, it can be both,,, but if you give then you are good with yourself...what people do with what you give is up to them :D
