True Love

Written 3/22/15 You can't put true love in a box.

I think people put true love

In a box

Like it's a black and white thing

..No Gray Hues..

..No Middle Ground..

..No Vibrant Colors..

It's always seen in a romanticized theme

But you came along

And taught me they were wrong

That true love comes in many different forms

Author's Note

This poem came about after my best friend and I were talking about true love. I always believed it was something that you could only experience with someone you're romantically involved with. But after talking to her about it, I realized that's not true.

What do you guys think? Do you believe true love has different forms, or is it only a romantic thing?

Yes. love has many colours, some we never see... and love transcends romanticism which is only a part of true love... quite the perceptive romantic aren't we :)

That is the beauty of it. I see it differently because I know why it was written [what I put in the authors note is only part of the story]. It was written out of friendship and how I think a lot of people see true love as only something that is romantic/between a couple.

i think my original thought (when I called you a perceptive romantic) was that you understand romance enough to know that there are different colours to love... lol

I think I've understood romance for a long time, even before I ever started dating, maybe it's part of me being an 'old soul' as I'm always told lol. But it wasn't until this conversation with my best friend that I understood that true love is in fact not just something romantic.

True love definitely has many different forms. "True love" doesn't even necessarily have to be with a person. It could involve a passion or a job or loving one's own family or loving friends. It really can mean anything. But true love between two people, two lovers, I believe in ways is a romantic thing. After all, it has to be. Being intimate with one another is one of the key foundations to a healthy relationship with one's partner. But the things that go on between the couple can vary, therefore, love itself can take on different forms.

True love between two lovers - yes is a romantic thing. But between two people, not necessarily. I say that because of why this was even explained to me in the first place. The only reason I had this conversation with my best friend was because she made a comment about how our friendship is a form of true love, we unconditionally love each other.

true love comes in many different forms, with many different people at many different times of your life. It doesn't have to be with someone you are romantically involved with.

No, love isn't, but I think love and true love are different things. Love can come from just about anything/anyone but true love is something special/different. Not everyone can give it and probably not everyone gets to experience it sadly. If that makes sense lol.

Maybe not, but I like adding some color to my pieces sometimes, I feel like they give a little 'extra' something to them, if that makes sense.
