When you read me those stories

as a child

when we would sit down

one of us on each side

and you’d read us a book

did you ever think

that one day I would write my own

that I would take words

and make things out of them

and that there is probably 

some part of me still

that is heavily influenced

by Black Beauty escaping

a burning barn

or the Pevensie children

playing in a wardrobe

They probably did or hoped at least. That's what growed ups do, hope for the best for their kids and imagining a future you that still gets excited with storytelling
And it is probably the reason you still smile in excitement when you get one of those feelings and start writing it from start to end.

This is pleasant to read, and I remember too; being introduced to stories from a very early age. Although, I only new of Black Beauty from a colour TV series back then.

And, the notion of "escape" and wanting to see yourself in a written narrative; also rings true for me. Although, my range of influences always been very wide.

Other reviewers have been examples, of works which influenced them. Around seven or eight, I tried writing stories. These were purely fictional, and a primary school teacher even encouraged this; in a reserved time slot on some afternoons. My poem "Poetic Genesis", covers the key influences; which assisted my writing journey.

But, I should not digress too much. This chapter links with the one which follows, as it represents a prior stage for the writer.

Ah... The tales of our youth.
To me it was the 1001 nights.
Always good to remember, and compare before and then.
