It is these inner children that can be found hanging around in the shadows of our psyches, often causing us to act out or to feel old fears as adults.

Who Is My Inner Child?

 

 

 

My inner child is 13 years old.

Even after all these years, she is infatuated,

in love with her hero and protector.

She worships him.

 

In her eyes, he is handsome and all powerful,

well respected by his peers and community.

He takes her places, and gives her gifts.

He never forgets to remind her how important she is to him,

showering her with attention.

He makes her feel needed and special.

Sex is new to her and he is her teacher.

He knows how to excite her

and her body responds to his cues.

These are things she will never forget.

Because she is so young, she is hardwired to him,

innately determined sexually, to him forevermore.

They have a secret life.

 

If discovered, he would lose everything,

his job, family, vocation.

She, too, would lose everything.

Every single thing important to her…in a word…him.

Secondary to this child

is the fear instilled in her by him,

explaining what could happen to her family,

if anyone ever found out

 �" and it would be all her fault. 

He gives her permission to lie and be deceitful

in order to protect his interests.

She is in love and does so willingly over time.

The consequences of not following his advice

are too horrible to consider…

the end of the world,

her world

forever.

This is the best piece of writing on Child abuse I have seen here. Without giving us the horrendous details..you tell us what goes on within an abused child and how the perpetrator gains control and keeps it...gives us the reader a reminder to keep a vigilant eye upon children, and not become complacent because someone "seems" trustful..

Thank you David. I have been around here just posting poems mostly waiting for my story to be judged in the Faulkner Literary competition Novel-in-Progress... I am shocked that I was in the Semi-Finalist list - that is of the original 293 - i ended up in the 68 chosen as semi finalists...

Now can focus on editing and finishing it...I am engaged in the Safe Church process that deals with this issue in the Anglican church and will finish my novel explaining how hard it is to endure the reliving of this over and over again....

When confronting my 'demons" she is heard screaming inside my head -- “I’m not telling them that. They can’t make me. They don’t need to know. Leave me alone! Back off! Go pick on someone else. I am fine just as I am.”
