Learning to Forget

Learning to Forget

A Poem by Gray Witch
"

. . . self taught

"

Learning to Forget . . .

Maintaining a shroud

of secrecy and silence,

clouds the mind and allows

a floating ambivalence.

Feelings hidden, isolated emotionally.

Perception of reality skewered,

memories suppressed,

while learning to forget.

Coping by disengaging reality.

Disassociating,

at the expense of understanding.

Fears of abandonment,

rejection and isolation

fuels a reluctance to express

all negative affects.

Uncomfortable with intimacy,

and not confident

they deserve another’s availability,

causes covert symptoms

of anxiety and distress.

Internalized forever,

avoiding the suffering,

offers the only protection, from further harm.

Seems so simple,

a panacea of sorts.

There’s nowhere to escape to anyway…
