The one thing I have learned in life is,

Stand up for your beliefs to be true,

To yourself and to those who count on you.

History is filled with times immemorial,

Were the failure to take a stand publicly

Resulted in horrors, lives lost.

When one multiplies to the hundreds

We can all change the tide of neglect.

So stand for what you believe in

No matter how difficult the journey.

The end result will be worth it I’m sure,

To see the pride in their eyes and their hearts.

That they live in democracy and freedom,

Where their voice is both heard and counted

And complacency is never an option …

what would we be without our beliefs-we really would just be robots one just like the next and the next and the next

Not bad. You have a good concept and you get it across fairly well, but I do somewhat question your tone - seems a little too preachy and sanctimonious, which is a little distasteful to read. The last line doesn't make much sense, too: 'abyss' seems like it might be the wrong word. Either way, it's still well-written, but not quite my cup of tea.

I changed the last few lines because in re-reading it I agreed with you that it sounded too preachy and it wasn't meant to be .... and I don't usually 'do' poetry... hence the faulty style and wording...LOL
