Bearing My Soul

Bearing My Soul

A Story by Gordon Greene

As I ventured out of the cabin I couldn’t help feeling I was doing something special.

The journey that began as simple curiosity soon became my “Labour D’amour”

Standing face to face with the Grizzly, one on one with this colossal mass of flesh and fur was, at once both unsettling and awe-inspiring.

But once he sensed I was a kindred spirit a single path was forged.

Each day began the same.  I walked to the edge of the brush and my friend would greet me there with a snort and a sniff.

I shared with him berries and fruit and he shared with me his precious time.

As early fall turned to winter, I knew my time with this fascinating creature of God was soon coming to a close, so I reluctantly plodded to the woods for a final farewell.

Just as with each previous day, he came to greet me,

And I could swear as my body flew through the air I heard him say…

“I’m not gonna’ hurt’cha; I’m just gonna’ eat’cha!”

I love it! Great word picture.
You fooled me completely. I was just beginning to think, just after the "fascinating creature of God" and "final farewell", that this was degenerating into a lovey-dovey gooey-gooey sentimental Yah-boo-sucks story, that I was going to have to work to find something nice to say about.

Then you laid it on me, and I laughed!

Good work.

gorden, this was a tale of a tale, i really enjoyed the
captured flow and feel, the essence of this poem,
the voice, written with a humorous, touching storyline,
touching in the way the experience captures sentiment
of the moment, i appreciate the Talent expressed, take care, mike

This is unsettling for it sound strangely familiar to me. Are you sure we haven't met before now, bear? With all the laughter, your book may make me pee on the seatie. Loved your metaphor even if it leaves me wondering.

Haha! A bear is a bear no matter how much you share (sorry didn't mean to rhyme there lol)
This was cute and showed that at all times Grizzlies command respect!

That's a hilarious punch-line, Gordon. Great stuff (again).
