Why Possums Are Thankful

Why Possums Are Thankful

A Poem by Gordon Greene

In this Holiday season I wanted to take the time to list some of the things I’m thankful for.

No representation is made that this is a complete list of things to be thankful for or that this list is in some way indicative of the feelings of Writer’s Café or its members or that chanting it will produce rain in a given area of the universe at any particular time… But it can’t hurt!

10. I’m thankful I made it this far without becoming road-kill.

  9. I’m thankful I can just hang around (it’s a possum thing.)

  8. I’m thankful that my big brother looks before he sits (Thanks, Bear!)

  7. I’m thankful for Mama’s possum-head biscuits (and thank you, Bear  for introducing me to honey. Yum!)

  6. I’m thankful for my little pink nose (The better to smell you with Bear. Take a bath, please.)

  5. I’m thankful God made me.

  4. I’m thankful God made you (see above)

  3. I’m thankful for the neighbor’s cat (OK, I only like him for his Cat Chow)

  2. I’m thankful that the neighbors’ kid can’t hit the broad side of a barn with his stinkin’ BB gun (You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!)

  1. But most of all...

I’m thankful for all my friends on the Writer’s Café and for all their kind words and encouragement.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Y’ALL!!!

Check out Bear on the link on my Bio! He's my Big dumb brother...

How could I not read something entitled "Why possums are thankful"? Especially when you had the decency to spell it possum and not opossum. That just shows good breeding. The humor you used was so nice, and the underlying messages were wonderfully stated. Sometimes you can catch more flies with honey.

My cousin's little boy, wrote on his turkey that he was thankful for the bathroom. But, he just turned four and the potty is a big thing in his little world.

Play nice with the kitties. And poor old brother Bear. Hope you had a wonderful holiday.

thank you for these nice wishes and for making me smile when I got to read a possum-eye view of the world. Glad you and I added each other as friends because I enjoy your talent and your humor. Have a beautiful day. I am - sitting here looking at the last of the beautiful fall leaves - shades of copper, the brightest yellow and maple red swirling to the ground in the wind that hints of winter and a few splashes of wet snow streak by. I am thankful for my two kids that I love beyond anything and for the peace this day brings. Also like the smells of pumpkin pie and apples and cinnamon coming from my kitchen.... Enjoy your day too!

mmmm roadkill...oh sorry Gordon, forgot myself for a second there. Yeah I'm glad you're not roadkill either, but I bet you'd make a tasty dish.

Great list of things to be thankful for. Mine is pretty simple. I'm thankful to eighteen wheelers for providing me and my family with so much to eat on the highways of America. One thing you'll never see is a hungry crow. :)

And I'm thankful for my little possum buddy who actually thought to thank somebody else...

Thanks for makin' me look bad...

Happy Thanksgiving!
