Such Thoughts for Infinity Beckoning

A snippt in the space time continuum

In a Universe fraught with infinite possibilities, the meeting of two such polar opposites could only ever be construed as the purest coincidence......

For three days they had battled to save their space cruiser as it wallowed, stricken, within the deep interstellar spaces, losing wall after wall despite their best efforts to prop them up and hold them against the sucking vacuum outside that would destroy them all in an instant if it ever got loose within.

Collision at trans-light speed with some massively dynamic object had always been a terrible possibility, and was generally held to mean instant dissolution for all on board - but to strike something while engaged in a slow speed manoeuvre -  nothing more than setting up for re-entry into a gravity field many millions of miles wide for a relatively slow descent to the target planet - was just... well.. it just wasn't fair!

Well - time was drawing close when they'd run out of space - so to speak - not outer space but the small enclosed space that they needed to continue living and breathing, and finally, after days of smoke-filled and totally claustrophobic rooms filled with battle to hold the walls - they were reduced to just the very end of the the ship - in the small part that contained the viewing dome to the outside of Greater Space.

Now - with nothing left to do but wait - they could look out and view the stars for most likely the last time - and wait.. and wait.

Amazing sight - the object they had rammed at such relatively slow speed - and which had rammed them, or rather that they had rammed since their nose was firmly fixed in it gaping side.. a truly amazing and beautifully wrought complex of an alien space craft - something they had never seen before and never would again... and since they had no communications - neither would anyone else for perhaps a very long time....

They had the time now to ponder what it must be like aboard her now.. who they were... and whether her crew were engaged in the same desperate struggle..... and how on Earth this could ever have happened in the infinities of space....

Such thoughts for Infinity beckoning.
