Candlelight and Roses

Candlelight and Roses

A Poem by Beatrice Boyle (Grandma Bea)
"

True love never dies...it transcends time and space.

"

Candlelight and Roses

I put away the silver

The crystal…carefully wrapped

The china gathers dust

My plans for life were scrapped

I had no need for trivial things

The world had stopped for me

There would be no more tomorrow

As far as I could see

The dining table set for two

The candlelight that glowed

The flowers that you brought me

The love you always showed

Those memories were too painful

For me to try to bear

Those things forever gone now

That we can’t ever share

But time has a way of healing

And grief begins to fade

And we tend to cling to memories

Of the life that we had made

I remember how the silver gleamed

In the glow of candlelight

And the scent of blooming roses

Wafting the air those special nights

I still set your place at the table

On our “special” romantic night

The crystal sparkles brightly

In the glow of candlelight

The scent of roses wafts the air

I feel your presence near

As I lovingly raise my glass to say

“Happy Anniversary Dear”

Grandma Bea, This is such a beautiful write! I love the sentiments and the endearing way the character reflected on her one true love. Your words painted a vivid picture. I agree, true love never dies.

Thanks again for entering the Hopeless Romantic Contest!

That is amazing. It really locked in on emotion and that's wonderful. Great job.

Beautiful, heartbreaking poem. I don't often get choked up by a poem, but this did it for me. I'm placing this in my favourites folder.

Well-expressed, Bea.

Beautiful, sad, uplifting, and even joyful- Well expressed... One of my oldest friends just died suddenly- His wife is devastated- it's still fresh and her grief is consuming but I'll show this poem in a few months or on their anniversary- A bittersweet masterpiece...

So romantic and sad, a beautiful poem so well penned. I can picture you sitting alone at the table looking at the empty space, alone, not completely, you have all the memories, thank you Bea for sharing a awesome
Scene. God Bless

Wow this is really well penned... still celebrating your love who I can only guess passed away... but love knows no boundaries including the afterlife... you set the mood and scene perfectly to let the reader feel the emotions of pain and devotion.
