The AbandonedA Poem by SkylinesTo my father
Your memory now fades
As the years pass by Still something inside me dies As your laughter resides I never knew you as a father But rather, As a haunting voice on the other line One that was misplaced in time For years I played along, As the daughter you’d never leave alone But as time ticked by Disappointment opened my eyes Twice a year was all that you gave me Was it all I was worth? Not your time, nor your words Still, you left me torn Even when I needed you the most Those dark days when I went unheard All I wanted was to hear you say Those, Three. Damn. Little. Words. I spent hours alone Pondering over reasons unknown Desperately wanting to know, “why?” That was the moment that you died I’ll never admit You played a part in how I turned out But between you and me, you’re pretty much the key You’ve left me spiteful And empty I can’t cry, and I can’t trust The only emotion I feel is disgust- towards myself Each day I pray That one day you’ll cave And someday I hope my memory causes you regret Just as yours to me is a threat One thing is for sure, I will never forgive you. Mark my words. © 2013 SkylinesReviews
