You Shattered Me

You Shattered Me

A Story by Graciebell

You shattered me, you built me up on these glass towers. That you promised were stable and safe. You picked away at my walls with a picaxe that you called love. You watched them crumble as I desperately clung to all the love that you could give. I took it and cherished it like a lost starving puppy off the street you had fed. You built me up so high I could touch the clouds but insisted on staying on the ground. You took pieces of me away little by little. Told me how the things you onced loved were annoying so that I tucked the little pieces of myself away from you for fear that the glass you put under my feet would break. I started to move like I was standing on glass, not the solid ground that you had promised. And it started to crack. It was the little things. The not fighting with me anymore, the empty I love yous. Slowly chipping away at my glass as you did my walls. I watched it crack and crumble till there was barely any left to stand on. Then it came in the form of a conversation. You stopped holding my hand. You walked away. I grabbed you waiting to beg you to stay but I could hear it. I could feel it. The glass was shattered and I was already falling as you said it as you took away the love that built me up so high and sustained me. The space beside me in the halls and in class was empty. You were gone leaving me with shattered pieces of myself everywhere…..
