The wanderer's heartA Poem by WebsterAn ode to all heart donors, on this "the world heart day". Dedicated to all those who in death have given new life.
From the moment I drew breath,
A quiet rhythm took its place, A heart that longed, with every beat, To find its home, to share its grace. In youth, it fluttered, wild and free, Seeking warmth in every face, Yet always stumbled, fell just short, Of finding love, of finding it's place. Years went by, the pulse grew soft, Love knocked, but never stayed, A dream of warmth, a fleeting touch, A love that always, gently swayed. Then came the day when breath was gone, My body stilled, the light grew dim, Yet in the quiet, my heart awoke, Unfamiliar place, a new journey to begin. Passed on to another, now it beats, In someone new, it finds its way, Seeking a place where it belongs, A silent hope, come what may. It whispers now, in veins anew, A quest for love, a place to start, In this new chest, it longs to stay, To find its home, to give its heart. So even though I could not find, The love I sought, the place I craved, My heart now wanders, in someone else, Seeking still, to not be saved. Perhaps one day, in its new home, It'll find the love it longed to see, A quiet beat, a steady pulse, In someone else's destiny. © 2024 Webster |
