Ash stood, completely still except for the involuntary trembling he experienced in his appendages. Moments passed in complete silence, a silence still enough that one could hear a Chimeco floating by in the soot-filled wind. The moment killed Ash, sapping all power from his limbs. He fell upon the ground, his face becoming dirtied with the fine chalky soil. He simply couldn't believe what just happened. He had just defeated Iris, one of his closest friends, and the champion of the new Unova region. He saw her Haxorus, sprawled on the ground with his rough skin weathered, and his eyes distinctly the shape of crosses. He saw his friend, with a mix of tears and dark blue hair littering her face and eyes. She was at the side of Haxorus, playing the role of nurse and faithful companion. Ash looked away, disgusted at the pain he caused, all for his own gain. At this moment, Pikachu came gingerly stumbling toward him. His red cheeks were indistinguishable because of the layer of dirt that masked his familiar yellow countenance. Pikachu proceeded to lay a tiny yellow hand upon Ash's head. This touch gave Ash the energy to then clutch Pikachu into his arms and burst out in celebration. His youthful exuberance finally triumphing over both physical and mental fatigue. Ash then stood and made his way to Iris. Her eyes rose from Haxorus to meet his, and she said "Well done, Ash." Ash felt his blood rushing to his face and smiled goofily. He humbly replied, "Thanks Iris, thanks a lot." "You did it, you are the new champion of the Unova region, I knew if anybody could beat me, it would be you," she said. With this, Ash's feeling of guilt was slightly nerfed, and he nodded to her in reply. "Champion again Ash, it's really unbelievable," she said. "Look at all the gifted trainers that you have beaten to get this far, Lance, Gary, Cynthia, Dawn, Misty, Brock, May, Steven, Barry, Richie, Taylor, Cheren, Bianca, Shofu, Wilechase, E-Lo, Volpe, Serebii, WaterPokemonMaster, Marrilland, Paul, and more, and wow, I even forgot to mention all of the Gym Leaders." Laughing, Ash replied, "and don't forget yourself Iris." "Of course," she replied laughing. As this was said, a large shadow was cast over the two trainers. Startled, Ash looked overhead. In the sky were giant green wings, large enough to engulf both of the trainers with ease. The bird-like figure blocked the sun, and therefore looked dark and hard to distinguish. However, with some staring, Ash identified the Pokemon. "It's Tornadus-Therian!" he exclaimed. The giant green bird Pokemon flew past the sun and looped around back toward the two trainers. Tornadus-Therian swooped down majestically and landed in front of the two trainers, casting another large shadow upon them. His graceful eagle-like figure struck both fear and awe into the hearts of Ash and Iris. Both pairs of their eyes rose to take in the presence of this elusive legend. The pieces of cloud attached to his face, back, and tail were still in motion from the residual tailwinds. Ash and Iris were silent, but Tornadus-Therian spoke. His mouth did not move however, he communicated with a type of Mewtwo-esque telepathy. "Ash, Iris, how are you both?" "Good, Tornadus," they replied simultaneously. "That is good." He replied with a deep, confident, voice resembling that of a grandfather. "Ash, congratulations on winning the Unova region again, that is quite the accomplishment," Tornadus-Therian stated. Ash nodded in thanks. "I've come to find you two, because I need the power of the best trainers in the world." "The best trainers in the world?" Ash and Iris both muttered through a state of shock. "Yes, you two are the two latest league champions aren't you?" Tornadus-Therian inquired. "I suppose," muttered Ash. "Well join me, we really need your help." Tornadus-Therian stated. Ash stared at him with wide eyes and finally asked, "Who is
we?" "You will see if you two come with me," Tornadus-Therian said assuringly. "Hop on my back, both of you." After a few moments, they mutually agreed, without words, and they climbed onto Tornadus-Therian's back and flew into the red horizon without a thought of hesitation.
There was not much talking on the flight over the vast sea routes that Tornadus-Therian took the trainers over. The Wingulls, Pellipers, Swellows, Pigdeys, kept Ash occupied as they flew over the blue sea. He even saw one Tropius during the trip. Marveled by these sights, Ash and Pikachu observed with wide eyes, laughing away with each other; meanwhile, Iris was quiet the entire trip. After about half an hour, land was in sight. Tornadus-Therian turned his gigantic avian head and spoke saying, " This is it, Lumberry Island." "Lumberry Island," repeated Ash and Iris in a tone of complete awe. The island was mainly a luscious healthy green hill, surrounded by flawless white sand. The ocean water in the island's proximity sparkled with a gleam of sheer clarity. Wingulls flew, Wailmers floated, Dwebbles and Sandshrews played together on the white sand, and Lapras were grazing on the island plants that overhung the shoreline. It seemed as a place of Pokestasis, a thriving ecosystem of mutualistic inter-Pokemon relationships. "It's beautiful," Iris muttered airily. "On the surface it is," immediately rebutted Tornadus-Therian. "There is a huge problem here, and it lies within the island's interior. " Tornadus-Therian pointed a wing toward the islands large, mountainous, central hill. All Ash saw was a lush green hillside, with small, scattered cliffs and plentiful Lum Berry bushes, complete with Aipoms swinging from the branches by their prehensile tails. However, Tornadus-Therian began, "This green hill is actually a volcano, a dormant one, but a volcano nonetheless. There is some internal trouble, especially with the volcano's guardian, Heatran." "A volcano... Heatran...," Ash thought aloud. "Yes, Heatran." Tornadus-Therian replied. "I would go in there myself and investigate, but you know, big flying guys like me have some trouble when it comes to caves, if you know what I mean. So I was wondering if you two could go talk to Heatran, and investigate for me; because if Heatran is under pressure, there is a strong possibility that the island could erupt, and the flora and fauna that you two fawned over will be destroyed." Ash replied, "We understand, sure we'll help Tornadus, you can count on us. "Thank you, both of you," Tornadus-Therian replied, "This island thanks you as well." "I will wait at the hilltop and wait for you to finish, I'll be listening, and if you run into trouble I will try my best to help you." "Ok, thank you Tornadus," Iris replied; and she followed Ash and Pikachu who were already on their way to the base of the hill. "The volcano entrance is at the south side of the island at the base of the hill," Landorus-Therian shouted as the two trainers determinedly made their way to the base of the massive hillside. The journey to the volcano entrance was rather uneventful, with the only notable events being crossing paths with many notable Pokemon species such as Linnone, Krabby, Wynaut, Crustle, Vileplume, and Alomomola. Eventually, Ash and Iris made it to the volcano entrance. It looked as if it was a simple cave, however there was a unmistakable heat that emanated from it. A Zubat flew out just as the two trainer were able to peer through the entrance. Faint cries were discernible from deep within the cavern, and Ash and Iris decided that they should probably follow that sound. So with two deep breaths, Ash and Iris entered the molten cavern, the small figure of Pikachu leading the way.
