The illusion of doing enough

The illusion of doing enough

A Poem by Gregoria Somol Ahmed
"

reflective exploration of how parental habits and dependencies can unintentionally impact their children's growth and learning.

"

They call in haste, with urgency fraught, A pattern repeated, never self-taught.

Parents assured, last-minute requests, Leaving burdens for others, no time to rest.

Big hearts for children, that’s why we stay, Picking up pieces they’ve thrown away.

Yet beneath the surface, a strain unfolds, Their habits on us, a grip that holds.

We bear the weight, our own paths delayed, Trapped in a cycle their choices have made.

Guilt trips linger, like whispers unseen, For daring to question what’s routine.

They care less for plans, for actions they shun, Knowing we’ll save what they’ve undone.

But in doing so, we dim the light, Of children who need us to teach them right.

Each rescue weakens, each trap we fall, Leaves less for the children, less for it all.

Parents’ immaturity casts its shade, And disables growth, where dreams were made.

Let’s break the cycle, turn the tide, Teach accountability with gentle guide.

For in standing firm, the lessons soar, And enable the children to learn much more.
