"The Weight of the World"

"The Weight of the World"

A Poem by Gregoria Somol Ahmed
"

Internal conflict and the quiet hope that, through empathy and love, we can find a way to ease the pain we all carry.

"

I watch the world, its silent cries,

Where simple acts of kindness lie,
Unspoken, buried deep inside,
Behind the masks of fragile pride.

Why is it hard to let love show?
To ease the hurt, to help it grow?
To take away the weight we bear,
To show the strength of those who care.

Why must the ego build a wall,
When tenderness could break the fall?
Why must the pride refuse to bend,
And block the way to hearts that mend?

It’s not for you, but for my soul,
That I seek peace and make you whole.

For in your joy, my heart does find,
A balm to heal my aching mind.

I take the pain the world may spill,
Absorb it all, yet feel it still,
The hurt, the sorrow, deep within,
As I long for a place to begin.

I wish for kindness in the air,
For empathy to fill the share,
For moments small, for words that heal,
To know our love is truly real.

But in the end, I cannot choose,
The path that others may refuse,
Yet still, I hope, with quiet grace,
For healing in this lonely space.

Author's Note

Gregoria Somol Ahmed
I carry this burden, even though I don’t have to. It’s something I can't help but bear. The weight of others’ struggles, the pain I absorb, and the longing for simple kindness and understanding. It’s not just for others—it’s for my own healing, my own need for connection.

I wonder whether having now expressed & so very well, I hasten to add such strong feelings, you have in some way shared the burden you eloquently describe .. I for one truly hope so because I know how cathartic such revelations can be .. your authors note also more than adequately reinforces such a longing or desire .. I am certainly glad I decided to check in on your ink today .. and was both impressed and delighted by this re-introduction to it .. Kind regards and with much respect .. Neville
