"Paid for the Little Things"

"Paid for the Little Things"

A Poem by Gregoria Somol Ahmed
"

Humorously explores the often-overlooked moments in our daily lives that contribute to a deeper sense of gratitude.

"

I’m sitting here, and the thoughts arise,
Just silly things, but they open my eyes.

Like how I get paid from seven-thirty to four,
Not just for the work, but for so much more.

I get paid to pee, and I get paid to poop,
To step away from my desk, in my own little loop.

I’m compensated for moments so small,
For walking to my boss’s office, and standing tall.

Even when I’m driving, with the radio on,
I’m on the clock, my workday goes on.

Paid for the miles, paid for the seat,
For the little breaks and the quiet retreat.

It sounds so silly, but it makes me grin,
To realize all the moments I’m tucked in.

Not just the hustle, the grind and the stress,
But for every quiet second, my life feels blessed.

Grateful for the time, grateful for the pay,
For the breaks and the pauses that fill up my day.

It’s not just about the work that I do,
It’s the little things, they matter too.

So I sit here and smile, with contentment inside,
For every minute of the ride I’m on,
Because in these small things, I see the grace"
In the quiet moments, I find my place.
