In Memory of a Simple Man

In Memory of a Simple Man

A Poem by Gregoria Somol Ahmed
"

My beloved father

"

In the quiet corners of a modest life,
Lived a man of gentle grace and strife.
Timid and friendly, shy but kind,
With a humor sharp, yet always refined.

Generous heart and laughter’s spark,
A soul whose presence left a mark.
Yet when provoked, a storm could rise,
A fierce tempest behind gentle eyes.

Under my mother’s watchful gaze,
He bore her storms, her verbal haze.
In his love, he found a way
To endure through night and day.

When her anger flared and words cut deep,
His patience broke, though he’d never leap
To cause her harm, though he’d sometimes shatter,
An outlet for the pain that did matter.

She knew his love, a potent force,
Her control was his guiding course.
Yet, when he left this world behind,
A void was left, and grief aligned.

His passing left a silent space,
Where once his love and humor graced.
My mother, now without his reign,
Finds solace in the children’s strain.

We, the seeds of his tender care,
Love her still, though it seems unfair.
For he raised us all with a father’s grace,
His presence a cherished embrace.

Three sisters from a different part,
Found in the truth of our father's heart.
In our unity, his love remains,
Binding us through joys and pains.

Though he’s gone, his memory’s light
Guides us through the darkest night.
A simple man, with depths untold,
A legacy of love and strength, pure and bold.
