The Wall

The Wall

A Poem by Jennifer Mathieu

The walls increase in size each day.
Growing taller and wider, protecting and surrounding.
Many have attempted their pitiful sieges
and yet, no one has truly succeeded.

Each day new bricks are laid.
Each moment that passes increases the defenses.
No one will ever reach the sought after riches, their secrets forever hidden.

The walls are made of old and new.
This lifelong battle reigns eternally true.
Is there anyone throughout the land, that will prove to be victorious?

The legends says there have been two.
Two knights who's efforts came close to collapsing the walls.
But, even after over a decade of battles,
no one has seen what is being protected.

It seems that efforts are being abandoned.
People say the strong walls are impenetrable.
No one takes the time to see, the story that each brick can tell.
Consisting of countless flaws and imperfections.

One day maybe someone will see,
that force will not be the way to win this siege.
Although the walls are strong and tall, there are ways for them to crash to the ground.
Faith and hope are all that remains.
That one day a valiant soul will wander upon them.
And over time, cause the walls to come tumbling down.
