thoughts of days gone past

My Lonely Heart

she has been away

for only a few hours

yet my heart feels as though

it has been days

she doesn't know

how badly

I miss her

she can never know

how deep

she has settled

inside my heart

I try to keep busy

I try to not think of her

I try to fool my heart

it doesn't work

it never has

it never will

I can only hope for

her safety

her peace of mind

her happiness

and maybe

every once in a while

she will think of me

and feel my lonely heart

reaching out to her

across the miles
