My Library

A Poem by Gomer LePoet
"

book 1 of me

"

My Library

my library is crammed full, some of it s**t,

some things in there, I don't even get,

but that's who I am, and what I'm about

stories, movies, books and such,

all overflowing into the living room hutch,

I even found an old jar of sauerkraut

Plato, Brokaw, and Chaos's Gleick,

Saving Private Ryan, and Naked Gun shtick,

I'm here, there and everywhere on the map

Sagan, Obama, and General Powell,

who here remembers, Thurston Howell,

Gilligans Isle, now that was some goofy crap

and if you know me, my music's the bomb,

some loud as hell and some really calm,

Mott the Hoople, All the Way to Memphis and back

I'll listen to Bethoven, I'll listen to Bach,

but my favorite of course, is kick-a*s rock,

Nectar remembered the future, it's in my stack

Sabato likes politics, and Roberts the past,

Dan Brown's novels, has the action real fast,

Schopenhauer had little regard, for the girls

Schindlers's list was a gripping tale,

Titanic was cool but had a horrific sail,

I always really loved, Shirley Temple's curls

Sherlock Holmes, was a real tricky dude,

I remember when I saw, Mary Poppins nude,

Shawshank Redemption, was a powerful flick

Monty Python's search, for the Holy Grail,

old time rock with J.J. Cale,

the first Alien story was really slick

now I've barely opened, the door inside of me,

there's a hell of lot more, of me to see,

so I'll probably be back, with much more to tell

my poetry of course, when I find the time,

always looking for, a reason or rhyme,

see y'all later, come back, sit a spell

..Loved the above lines. Real funny stuff as usual, you never disappoint.
I really like the rhmye scheme in this poem, and i think it works really well. Skillful. And I don't dislike any of the things you mentioned and most of them I really like...
...BUT I draw the line at Dan Brown...!!!!
I visited a town today which has the highest proportion of any local town i know for 'charity shops' (just second hand stuff sold where all proceeds go to charity, in case its called something different in the US) and in EVERY single charity shop i've been in throughout the region there is ALWAYS a copy of "The DaVinci Code" - that tells you something about its one-off trendy popularity, they're all being given away now..!!
Well, the charity shops in the town i visited today were certainly no exception..
in fact, one shop had no less than FOUR copies of "The DaVinci Code" and one copy of the follow-up.....!!!!
I rest my case.
Dan Brown should have a section all to himself in bookshops, under the category of "UNWANTED GIFTS"

I have a whole room of old book and poetry too. I have been smarter the last few years. Putting everything on a disk for safe keeping. I understand the poem. I wouldn't trade my Mark twain "The war prayer or my old poetry book" away. A excellent poem.

Unique! I liked these little tid bits of info.
Mmmmm sauerkraut!! I'm thinking "Pink Panther" movies.
I love those, with David Niven. But, my all time favorite movie
is "Bringing Up Baby" with Catherine Hepburn & Carey Grant.
Classic! Thanks for sharing a piece of your world with all of us.

What a fun poem about your library. I enjoyed reading your comments about each author or movie. I like your rhymes.

I loved this poem and it has to be true of everyone on the planet. When we die and someone has to go through our things, they will probably think, "Couldn't this person decide on one thing!" My mind goes in so many directions, at times, that I have to just stop everything so that I can catch up with myself. Great writing!!

this feels like a rap song to me...maybe the profanity on the first line tuned me into that mode...
