The Goodbye Look

The Dan talked about it, they even wrote a song,

how things got so messed up, she finally said so long,

you just had to test the waters, had to push the edge,

now your standing all alone, out there on that ledge

you promised her a wine and dine, then forgot to call,

you said that you were detained, down at City Hall,

some mix up, some sort of gaffe, you were not to blame,

why did you not dial me up, if this is what you claim

she checked it out, she caught you flat, your pathetic lies,

disgust and disappointment, laser beams from her blue eyes,

there is no way to misread, those daggers that you took,

I believe you just got, what's known as, The Goodbye Look

You said you did not know that girl, just helped her find her way,

but you were seen at her locker, seven times today,

it wasn't you is what you said, must be some mistake,

you weren't even there today, you were at the lake

she checked it out, she caught you flat, your pathetic lies,

disgust and disappointment, lasers from her blue eyes,

there is no way to misread, those daggers that you took,

I know you just got, what's known as, The Goodbye Look

Beware of the daggers. You know you did it then. Nice work!

Superb piece with catchy lines and rhymes, plus a great song from Mr. Fagan to top if off my friend.

Great lyrics. Ya know know, you mess up and...well what can you expect. Just be glad those daggers aren't real.
Is that a Les Paul you're holding there?

I had a few goodbye looks and a lot more. The look I feared the most is the look. I'm going kill you ASAP. Nice story and I like the way you ended the excellent poem.

I enjoyed this.
Witty.

My favorite stanza:
you promised her a wine and dine, then forgot to call,
you said that you were detained, down at City Hall,
some mix up, some sort of gaffe, you were not to blame,
why did you not dial me up, if this is what you claim

This flys off the tongue in a really smart, witty, semi-'street' fashion that lends it an overall 'kudos'... Almost 'beatnick' in style. It's very amusing and rhymes real well without falling into the trap of using the easiest word that comes along. Also, although accessible its reading age group may be to many, it is never completely simple in its delivery. It desribes a situation many will recognise immediately, whether male or female. That 'look' is universal... Great fun and a great hook line/title.

I agree, this poem is a song! My eyes are gray, not blue, but I feel I am expert at the "good-bye look." You, even, hit on all of those basic cover-up lies. I loved this poem!!
