The Kings (a holiday poem)

Have you heard the news, the Kings are coming

the drummer boy, he's doing his drumming,

it's the time of year, when we celebrate,

it will have to do, though it's the wrong date,

most people are smiling and humming carols,

shop, shop, shopping, reaching in barrels,

to find that perfect thing, for Bobby or Sue,

when searching our hearts is what we need to do,

If Muhammad, Jesus or Krishna is your King,

thank them all, for giving us voices to sing,

about the freedoms that they, gave to us all,

the hope and the joy, hearing our call,

bringing us out, out to the light,

removing us from the darkness of night,

for they gave their lives, so we could be free,

they started it all, they made others see,

so when we celebrate, this wonderful day,

let us not forget, how it got this way

This is one of the better written poems that I have read of yours. I have worked in retail, at Christmastime, before; trust me, no one in those throngs of crazy shoppers seems to know or care "how it got this way!" I think we should have Christmas be what is was meant to be and have another holiday for all of the shopaholics, who feel that they have to spend themselves into debt, once a year; what shall we call it, though. August doesn't have a holiday, in the USA, so let's call it August Madness. LOL!!

This is a great holiday poem - a timely reminder of why such celebrations are held - something often hidden by the craziness of the season. Love the message of harmony/unity in this - by thanking whoever your King...

Great poem.

Great holiday poem. A reminder that we should be "searching our hearts" and be giving thanks instead of focusing on consuming. Thank you for sharing.
