Recollections No. 1

Recollections No. 1

A Poem by gombeggar

Remembering things long forgotten

Some would say it was a terrible task

                   At hand

How he couldn’t drive a car

Worth a damn

Grinding gears

No good befuddlement

Exquisite journeys

Of times long past

All shorts, just snippets

                                    Of imagination?

I think not!

Rememberings of times long past

             But not forgotten

You can’t feel bright, bright sunshine

Unless you know the feelings of long dark passings, times and daze

Wretching it out

So you remember how it all feels

             Inside and out

Old friends long gone

New bits of comfort and calm

That lets you feel you can ride anywhere

A fortnight chasing a young women

Over every land and time of day

A sour said bit of words

That didn’t really mean a thing

A puff of smoke

Then another door opens

She wears flowing clothes and drinks wine

Dose can cloud the eyes

Sparkles can change to burning dust bins

Fern trees can spread to see night’s sky

Mud can cover your shoes

A martini can warm your heart

Summer winds can get you lost in a crowd

No doubt and all

Remembering till you just forget

            The whole story in song

Why not?

Did I really look that way?

Of course the lights were off

Knowing life is fleeting

It still goes on and on

With every more so many songs to write

So many faces to see

So many branches to clear

So many old hearts you called, my dear

So much laundry you’ve done

Of course all those setting suns

Some which you even can recall

All the horrid stuff you can forget

The Avocado Thieves you can’t quite recall

                            But someone did remember

In a sideways glance

A hot peppers taste test to boot

Mother’s children growing up to dreams of fairies

Sliding spinning ‘round roadways

To breath and smile and drive off again

In a constant rush to get no while or where

                            Just real quick like

                            Or so it seems

And you remember it all when an old friend

                             Saxes a quick verse

And your stage turns all around putting you in the audience (Jethro Tull will get me, friends)

And owe a sudden mortgage

Because the grass was never mowed

In the course of choice in a donut

When the movie preview started

And a girl left a note in your hand

That was still there 20 years on

And the vegetables chopped made a fine salad

                                 Of course you knew this

As you looked out of the spinning Space Needle

While a colleague kicked around in Hawaii

Another tuned his bass guitar

While you looked back on a forgotten window

                                And sighed

In her eyes

And the stain came out in the wash

Because someone remembered your face so well

What was I saying all the while just now?

Hmm...
