Back Up Man

Back Up Man

A Poem by gombeggar

Honey, I can’t keep being your back up man

Always in the shadows

Ready for your needy needs

All the waiting I was doing

Just waiting to please

Long distance lover even at arms length

How strange

How stirring

Never had a love like you

One that seems to need

Looking always to the horizon

Yet, still won’t let me be

Happenstance and patience

In which to view all the other suitors

Each one

They all come along

In through her revolving door

One right after another

In that line there’s always some more

Is she trying them on to fit?

To taste them?

Every one?

And when she takes a break

Tales time to think it through

When all the trying feels like lonely trysts

Who does she come to?

I can’t be your back up man

Always waiting

For the revolving door to stop

And when her face is laughing

Restful in my company

I’m just filling in time

Until she returns to her treachery

Leaves me there

Just to wait

On her time frame

Oh, how she flutters

Passing day to day

Sagittarius mother

Always up and away

I can’t keep waiting

Despite you

Little one
