Life Upon These Shoes

Life Upon These Shoes

A Poem by gombeggar
"

thoughts on footwear

"

Spike right through my left shoe

Spike right through my big right shoe

First one then the other, nailed down and asunder

What’s a fella to do?

Can’t lift my feet, nor take a step

Can’t even jump up then down

Let’s just say I’m not doing my best

Lean to the left, lean to the right

Both forward and back

Yet, I’m still stuck pretty tight

Who put these spikes upon my feet, you may ask

That’s a very good question, that

Think thus about this infraction

Such a terrible thing to do

An impediment, a travesty, a thoughtless act unkind

To leave me in the lurch

Trapped here just so long enough that I may just lose my mind

Knees are weak, bending some

Hear my ankles crack

Sometimes the pain just makes all numb

Oh, whoa says me; I need to leave

I have some place to go

Let me go from here! Release me!

And all I hear is no

How fast it happened

In a life’s worth flashing

I was stuck right here to the spot

I hardly was to know

One fine day I was going along; Yo-ho

I felt not a single drop drop of whoa

Then suddenly with great surprise

To this very place my shoes were locked

It troubles me from time to time

When I look down at my shoes in their bind

Wouldn’t matter to unlace them

The spikes hold to the ground

To wiggle to and fro

Move each and every toe

Still no way to roam

Ahh, what a life upon these shoes
